LOCAL AREA

Threlkeld is a small village, 5 minutes drive from Keswick, situated at the foot of the magnificent mountain Blencathra, which is very popular with fell walkers.  The cottage is ideally located for those looking for a picturesque base in which to explore the northern fells with many walks and cycling tracks right on the doorstep. There is also a children’s play area nearby and you can watch your children at play from the rear patio of the cottage.


The village also has 2 excellent pubs both serving food.  

There are lovely riverside walks and an old railway line providing a pleasant way to cycle or walk to Keswick. There is a great circular walk in St John's in the Vale.  Castlerigg Stone circle is also in walking distance from the cottage.


 


For keen golfers, just across the main road is Keswick golf club, which is open to visitors.

There is golf, pony- trekking, sailing, rowing, canoeing, motor cruising, windsurfing, tennis, bowls, fishing and other outdoor activities close at hand.  


There are lots of great walks from the cottage up and around Blencathra. There are several country houses and gardens to visit.


 For the more adventurous, at Whinlatter Forest close by, there are several mountain bike routes and a Go-Ape course. Also very close to the cottage is the Keswick Climbing Wall and Activity Centre

The popular market town of Keswick, on the edge of Derwent Water, right in the heart of the English Lake District, has many attractions including a museum, the famous Theatre by the Lake, parks, as well as many speciality shops, cafes, cinema, pubs and restaurants.

With its picturesque setting and proximity to Keswick and with Derwent Water, Thirlmere and Bassenthwaite lakes close by, this is a ideal holiday base, from which to explore the  breathtaking scenery of the Lake District National Park.  The peace and tranquility of the local area can be enjoyed whatever time of year you visit.
